Poker is a card game played with two or more players. The player who makes the best hand is rewarded with the odd chips in the pot. However, if two players tie, the pot is divided equally between them. The player with the highest card of a certain suit receives the odd chip. Any other card is hidden from the other players.
The rules of poker vary according to the casino, but the basic principles are the same across all games. Before a round of play begins, each player must make a “buy in” bet, or ante, which is a small amount. The dealer will then deal two cards to each player, and the player must choose whether to bet, fold, or raise their initial bet.
Almost all games of Poker use poker chips. At least seven players should have poker chips. Each chip has a value, with a white chip being the lowest, a red chip worth five whites, and a blue chip worth ten or twenty or thirty whites. Each player in a game of Poker may also choose to use jokers or wild cards.
Poker has a standard deck of 52 cards. Some games use more packs, or add jokers to the deck. In general, cards are ranked from Ace high to Ace low. The highest five-card-ranking hand wins.
