While poker may seem like a game of chance, it actually has quite a bit of skill and psychology to it. The rules are very simple: Five cards are dealt to each player, the highest hand wins. The game can be played by two to 14 players and the object of the game is to win the pot, which consists of all the individual bets made in a deal.<\/p>\n
There are a number of different ways to play poker, and many variations have arisen over the years. In general, the game is played in rounds, and each player has the option of raising or re-raising his bets in successive turns. This allows players to build up their bets and thus improve their chances of winning the pot.<\/p>\n
The standard pack of 52 cards is used in most forms of the game, though a joker (or bug) can sometimes be included and some games also include other special cards, such as deuces or one-eyes. There are four suits, spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs; each suit is ranked higher or lower than another. The highest hand is a royal flush, consisting of the Ace, King, Queen, Jack and 10 of the same suit.<\/p>\n
